Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Has the story reached thee of the overwhelming (Event)? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 Laboring, toiling, 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 given to drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food will there be for them but a bitter Dhari' 6 which neither sustains, nor satisfy hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 With their effort [they are] satisfied 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 raised couches, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 well-placed cushions, 15 And rich carpets spread. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 And so, [O Prophet,] exhort them; thy task is only to exhort: 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 Surely to Us is their return; 25 Then surely upon Us is the taking of their account. 26
