Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 [Some] faces, that Day, will be humbled, 2 Working [hard] and exhausted. 3 They will enter in the hot blazing Fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 No food shall be theirs save bitter thorn, 6 which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 In the high empyrean, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 In it is a flowing spring. 12 therein uplifted couches 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 And cushions lined up 15 And silken carpets spread. 16 Have they not looked at how the camel is created, 17 how the heavens are raised up high, 18 how the mountains are set firm, 19 And how the earth was outstretched? 20 Then remind them! Thou art only a reminder; 21 you are not their keeper. 22 But whoever turns back and disbelieves, 23 Allah will punish them with the greatest punishment. 24 To Us they will all return. 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
God Almighty has spoken the truth.
