Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
HAS THERE COME unto thee the tiding of the Overshadowing Event? 1 Many a face will be disgraced on that day. 2 laboring, wornout, 3 about to enter a glowing fire, 4 Made to drink water from the boiling hot spring. 5 They will have no food except bitter thorn, 6 unfattening, unappeasing hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 Well-pleased because of their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 Wherein they will hear no unsuitable speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 raised couches, 13 well arranged goblets, 14 and cushions ranged, 15 and carpets outspread. 16 Do they not look at the camels, how they are created? 17 And how the heaven was raised up, 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 For to Us will be their return; 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
