Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Have you heard about the Overwhelming Event? 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 labouring, weary, 3 They will [enter to] burn in an intensely hot Fire. 4 Made to drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which gives no strength and neither stills hunger. 7 On that very Day some faces shall be radiant with joy, 8 well-pleased with [the fruit of] their striving, 9 in a sublime Garden, 10 wherein thou wilt hear no empty talk. 11 Within it is a flowing spring. 12 and couches raised high, 13 Goblets placed (ready), 14 cushions ranged, 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And the heaven – how it has been raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And the earth, how it is spread? 20 So render good counsel, for you are simply required to counsel, 21 You are not a dictator over them. 22 Except whoever turns away and disbelieves – 23 Him Allah shall torment with the greatest torment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 then upon Us shall rest their reckoning. 26
