Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Have you heard the story of the overwhelming event (the Day of Judgment)? 1 Faces on that Day shall be downcast, 2 Labouring, wearied out, 3 (Yet) Going into the blazing fire. 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 Which will neither nourish nor satisfy hunger. 7 Many faces will be joyous on that day, 8 and pleased with the result of their deeds in the past. 9 In an elevated garden, 10 In which they will not hear any lewd speech. 11 Therein is a fountain flowing, 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 What, do they not consider how the camel was created, 17 And at the sky, how it is raised aloft? 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And the earth – how it has been spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not over them a controller. 22 However, as for him who turns away, being bent on denying the truth, 23 God will punish them with the greatest torment. 24 Truly, to Us is their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
