Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that Day, there shall be downcast faces, 2 labouring, weary, 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 watered at a boiling fountain, 5 There is no food for them except thorns of fire. 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 In a lofty garden, 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 with a flowing spring, 12 Therein shall be couches elevated! 13 And chosen goblets. 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 And rich carpets (all) spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel – how it has been created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains – how they have been established? 19 how the earth was outstretched? 20 Therefore advise; indeed you are a proclaimer of advice. (The Holy Prophet is a Remembrance from Allah.) 21 Thou art not over them a warden. 22 But whoever turns back and denies the truth, 23 God shall chastise him with the greatest chastisement. 24 Lo! unto Us is their return 25 and then it is for Us to call them to account. 26
