Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Many faces will be contrite on that day, 2 Toiling, weary, 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 and will be made to drink from a boiling spring, 5 no food for them except thorny plants 6 Which doth not nourish nor release from hunger. 7 Some faces on that Day will be radiant, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They will live in an exalted garden 10 Wherein you shall not hear vain talk. 11 A gushing fountain shall be there 12 and couches raised high, 13 and goblets placed ready, 14 And cushions ranged! 15 And carpets spread around. 16 Do they never reflect on the camels and how they were created, 17 And at the heaven, how it is raised? 18 and how the mountains were firmly fixed? 19 And at the earth, how it is outspread? 20 Therefore do thou give admonition, for thou art one to admonish. 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But he who turns his back, and disbelieves, 23 So Allah will mete out to him the greatest punishment. 24 for behold, unto Us will be their return, 25 Then indeed only upon Us is their reckoning. 26
