Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Has there come to you the narration of the overwhelming (i.e. the Day of Resurrection); 1 On that day (many) faces will be downcast, 2 be toiling and worn-out; 3 they shall burn in a Scorching Fire; 4 They will be given to drink from a boiling spring, 5 They shall have no food except bitter dry thorns 6 which will neither fatten them nor satisfy them. 7 (Other) faces that Day will be joyful, 8 with their striving well-pleased, 9 They shall be in a Garden lofty: 10 Where they shall hear no (word) of vanity: 11 Therein will be a flowing spring, 12 Therein will be thrones raised high, 13 and goblets laid out, 14 And cushions set in rows, 15 and carpets spread out. 16 DO, THEN, they [who deny resurrection] never gaze at the clouds pregnant with water, [and observe] how they are created? 17 And the sky: how it was raised high? 18 And the mountains, how they are firmly fixed, 19 And the earth: how it was spread out? 20 Remind them, for thou art but a remembrancer, 21 thou canst not compel them [to believe]. 22 But whoso is averse and disbelieveth, 23 Allah will punish him with a mighty Punishment, 24 Verily, to Us will be their return; 25 Ours is surely then to reckon with them. 26
