Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 (Muhammad), consider how your Lord dealt with the tribe of Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and Thamood, who hollowed the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 Enter then My garden." 30
