Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 by the even and the odd, 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 is there not in this strong evidence for a man of sense? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with Ad, 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 So they made great mischief therein? 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 Nay, but [how will you fare on Judgment Day,] when the earth is crushed with crushing upon crushing, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And His bonds will be such as none other can bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
