Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the daybreak, 1 and the ten nights! 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And the night when it departs. 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And if He tests him and restricts his livelihood – thereupon he says, “My Lord has degraded me!” 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And Hell, that Day, is brought (face to face),- on that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance profit him? 23 He will say: 'Would that I had forwarded (good works) for my life!' 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter thou, then, among My devotees! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
