Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, indeed, your Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 return to your Lord wellpleased, wellpleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
