Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Who were very tall like lofty pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 (All) these transgressed beyond bounds in the lands, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say, "Would that I had done some good deeds for this life". 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
