Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 and the even and the odd, 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied iniquity therein? 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 or urge one another to feed the destitute? 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 So on that day, no one punishes like He does! 25 and Allah will bind as none other can bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 So enter among My servants, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
