Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 and the ten nights, 2 The multiple and the one, 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not created in the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 and with Pharaoh of the stakes? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 By no means! when the earth shall be ground with grinding, grinding, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He shall say: O! would that I had sent before for (this) my life! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return thou unto thy Sustainer, well-pleased [and] pleasing [Him]: 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
