Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And the Ten Nights, 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and (when you find yourself) in the presence of your Lord and the rows and rows of angels, your greed for riches will certainly be of no avail to you. 22 And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none will bind as He will bind. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
