Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn, 1 And ten nights, 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 Now, as for man, when his Lord trieth him, giving him honour and gifts, then saith he, (puffed up), "My Lord hath honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: “Would that I had sent ahead what would be of avail for this life of mine!” 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 [To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My righteous bondmen! 29 And enter into My garden. 30
