Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 Consider the night as it runs its course! 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 Who all waxed exorbitant in the cities, 11 And who then spread a lot of turmoil in them. 12 Wherefore thy Lord poured on them the scourge of His torment. 13 Verily, your Lord is Ever Watchful (over them). 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 But no; you do not treat the orphan honourably, 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed - 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas the woe! Would that I had sent ahead something in my life." 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O the contented soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 So enter among My (righteous) servants 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
