Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there (not) in these an adjuration (or evidence) for those who understand? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with (the tribe of) Thamud, who clove the rocks in the valley; 9 And with Fir'awn, owner of the stakes 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 By no means! But ye honour not the orphan, 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 when your Lord comes down with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 and none can bind with bonds like His! 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord well-pleased (with your blissful destination), well-pleasing (to your Lord). 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
