Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the dawn, 1 and ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Truly in that there is an oath for those who possess understanding. 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied therein corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 No. In fact you are not generous to the orphans, 17 And urge not on the feeding of the poor. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 And none can bind as He will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 enter My Paradise! 30
