Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the dawn 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the even and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And made therein much mischief. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him by restraining his means, he says: "My Lord despises me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance [of others] with devouring greed, 19 and love the riches, loving them ardently. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 But on that Day none will punish as He (Allah) will punish, 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter among My servants 29 And enter thou My Garden. 30
