Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By oath of the (particular) dawn. 1 And [by] ten nights 2 by the even, and the odd, 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard of how your Lord dealt with the tribe of 'Ad, 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 The like of which were not created in the (other) cities; 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Fir'aun (Pharaoh), who had pegs (who used to torture men by binding them to pegs)? 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 Therefore your Lord let down upon them a portion of the chastisement. 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And comes your Lord, and angels row on row, 22 and Gehenna (Hell) is brought near on that Day the human will remember, and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 On that Day no one will punish as He punishes, 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 Serene soul, 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
