Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the dawn, 1 And by oath of ten nights. 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 All of them committed excesses in their lands, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 and you love wealth with an ardent love 20 Most certainly – when the earth is smashed and blown to bits. 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 (On the other hand it will be said): “O serene soul! 27 "Come back to your Lord, Well-pleased (yourself) and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Join My servants. 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
