Dawn (Al-Fajr)
30 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Night (Al-Layl) before The Forenoon (Al-Duhaa)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And the ten nights, 2 By the even and odd (contrasted); 3 The night as it advances, 4 Is this not a sufficient oath for intelligent people? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 of the columned (city) of Iram, 7 The like of which was not built in the cities, 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 Who (all) were rebellious (to Allah) in these lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 Truly your Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man - when his Lord proveth him and so honoureth him and is bounteous unto him, then he saith: 'my Lord hath honoured me, 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 Nay! but you do not honor the orphan, 17 and you urge not the feeding of the needy, 18 and you devour the inheritance with greed, 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life [to come]!" 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 into My Paradise. 30
