Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen how your Lord dealt with Ad 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 Like whom no one else was born in the cities. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [All of] whom oppressed within the lands 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him and then is gracious and provides good things for him, he says: "My Lord has been gracious to me." 15 But when He tries him, by straitening his means of life, he says: "My Lord has humiliated me!" 16 No! But you show no good to the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 Why do you take away the inheritance of others indiscriminately 19 And ye love wealth with inordinate love! 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 And thy Lord shall come with angels, rank on rank, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 For, that Day, His Chastisement will be such as none (else) can inflict, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Enter among My servants 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
