Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 By the Nights twice five; 2 by the even and the odd, 3 by the night when it journeys on! 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [the people of] Iram the many-pillared, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the vale, 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Thus, your Lord afflicted them with torment; 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 and you do not urge one another to feed the needy, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 Nay! when the earth is made to crumble to pieces, 21 And your Lord comes with the angels in rows, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life." 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 and none can bind with bonds like His. 26 But ah! thou soul at peace! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
