Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 There is indeed in them (the above oaths) sufficient proofs for men of understanding (and that, they should avoid all kinds of sins and disbeliefs, etc.)! 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 and caused much corruption in them: 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 surely thy Lord is ever on the watch. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 And when He proveth him, and so stinteth unto him his provision, he saith: 'my Lord hath despised me. 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor. 18 And you devour inheritance all with greed, 19 and why do you have an excessive love of riches? 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 and Gehenna is brought out, upon that day man will remember; and how shall the Reminder be for him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O thou peaceful soul! 27 Return unto thine Lord well pleased and well-pleasing. 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
