Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Dawn, 1 And by ten nights, 2 And [by] the even [number] and the odd 3 The night as it advances, 4 Indeed in that there is an oath for a man of sense. 5 Seest thou not how thy Lord dealt with the 'Ad (people),- 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 The like of which was not created in the lands; 8 And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley? 9 And with Pharaoh, firm of might, 10 led rebellious lives, 11 And multiplied corruption. 12 so your Lord unleashed on them the scourge of punishment: 13 For thy Lord is (as a Guardian) on a watch-tower. 14 As for man, when his Lord tries him by giving him honour and gifts, then he says (puffed up): "My Lord has honoured me." 15 whereas, whenever He tries him by straitening his means of livelihood, he says, "My Sustainer has disgraced me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 and enter My Paradise.” 30
