Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 and the ten nights! 2 Consider the multiple and the One! 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with (the tribe of) Aad? 6 (And) the tall giants of Iram? 7 the like of whom no nation was ever created in the lands of the world? 8 And (with) Thamud (people), who cut (hewed) out rocks in the valley (to make dwellings)? 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 and worked much corruption therein? 12 So your Lord poured a scourge of punishment over them. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when He tests him by straitening his sustenance, he says: “My Lord has humiliated me.” 16 No! But you do not honor the orphan 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and you devour the inheritance greedily, 19 And you love wealth with much love! 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He shall say, 'O would that I had forwarded for my life!' 24 So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 [But unto the righteous God will say,] "O thou human being that hast attained to inner peace! 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 Enter thou among My bondmen! 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
