Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Dawn, 1 and the ten nights! 2 And the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it moves on towards daybreak (reward and retribution in the next life is an absolute reality). 4 Why is there an oath in this, for the intelligent? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 Of the (city of) Iram, with lofty pillars, 7 the like of which was never created in the land, 8 And (with) Samood, who hewed out the rocks in the valley, 9 and with Pharaoh of the [many] tent-poles? 10 They were tyrants in the land 11 And increased therein the corruption. 12 (Therefore) your Lord let loose upon them a scourge of punishment; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 And as for man, when his Lord tries him, then treats him with honor and makes him lead an easy life, he says: My Lord honors me. 15 But when He tries him (differently), then straitens to him his means of subsistence, he says: My Lord has disgraced me. 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 and you greedily devour the inheritance of the weak, 19 and you ardently love wealth. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 and [the majesty of] thy Sustainer stands revealed, as well as [the true nature of] the angels; rank upon rank? 22 And Hell will be brought near that Day. On that Day will man remember, but how will that remembrance (then) avail him? 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 But on that day shall no one chastise with (anything like) His chastisement, 25 Nor shall any bind with His bond. 26 (To the righteous soul will be said:) "O (thou) soul, in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 return unto thy Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing! 28 Join My servants. 29 "Yea, enter thou My Heaven! 30
