Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the dawn, 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by the even and the odd, 3 And [by] the night when it passes, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 ART THOU NOT aware of how thy Sustainer has dealt with [the tribe of] 'Ad, 6 Of Eram with lofty pillars (erected as signposts in the desert), 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with the Thamud (people), who cut out (huge) rocks in the valley?- 9 And with Pharaoh of the tent pegs 10 Those who rebelled in the cities, 11 spreading in them much corruption? 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Indeed nothing is hidden from the sight of your Lord. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by honoring him and favoring him, he says: 'My Lord, has honored me' 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 and greedily devour the entire inheritance, 19 And ye love riches with exceeding love. 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 And on that Day hell will be brought [within sight]; on that Day man will remember [all that he did and failed to do]: but what will that remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: Ah, would that I had sent before me (some provision) for my life! 24 Upon that day none shall chastise as He chastises, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 (It will be said to the pious): "O (you) the one in (complete) rest and satisfaction! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him], 28 Enter thou among My servants! 29 Enter then My garden." 30
