Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
CONSIDER the daybreak 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 And by oath of the even and the odd. 3 and by the passing night, 4 Is there not an evidence in this for those who have sense? 5 Bethinkest thou not in what wise thy Lord did with the 'A'ad: 6 (The people of) Aram, possessors of lofty buildings, 7 The like of whom were never created in the realm; 8 And how did He deal with Thamud who hewed out rocks in the valley? 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Therefore did thy Lord pour on them a scourge of diverse chastisements: 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is ground to powder, 21 and when your Lord appears with rows upon rows of angels, 22 On that day, hell will be brought closer and the human being will come to his senses, but this will be of no avail to him. 23 He will say: "Alas! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased and well-pleasing Him. 28 Then enter the ranks of My chosen bondmen! 29 Enter thou My Paradise!' 30
