The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And by oath of your forefather Ibrahim, and by you his illustrious son! 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He boasts, "I have spent wealth abundant!" 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 Ah, what will convey unto thee what the Ascent is! - 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
