The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: “I have squandered enormous wealth.” 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and a pair of lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the freeing of a slave; 13 Or the giving of food in a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
