Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I CALL THIS earth to witness -- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the begetter and whom he begot. 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 and downtrodden destitute person, (so that he would be of) 16 Then he became one of those who believed, and recommended one another to perseverance and patience, and (also) recommended one another to pity and compassion. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
