Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 We have indeed created man surrounded by hardships. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He says (boastfully): "I have wasted wealth in abundance!" 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right. 18 And (as for) those who disbelieve in our communications, they are the people of the left hand. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
