Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 And you shall be made free from obligation in this city-- 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 that We have created man into a life of toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips? 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he hath not attempted the Ascent - 11 What will explain to you what the ascent is? 12 It is freeing someone's neck from slavery; 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 over them is a Fire covered down. 20
