The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 What, does he think none has power over him, 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And shown him the two ways (good and evil)? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is) the setting free of a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 An orphan of near relationship 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 so that he becomes one of those who believe, charge each other to be patient, and charge each other to be merciful. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
