The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 And you are free to live upon it, -- 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not make two eyes for him? 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 Yet he attempteth not the steep, 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
