The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ No, I swear by this country (Mecca), 1 in which you are now living 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 That We created man in toil and trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Does he think that none has observed him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes? 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he would not try to ascend the steep uphill road... 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or the feeding in times of famine 14 of an orphaned relative 15 Or a needy person in misery 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 [with] fire closing in upon them. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
