The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ No! I swear by this land, 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does man think that no one saw him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 and a tongue and two lips? 9 and guided him on the two paths (of good and evil)? 10 So he did not quickly enter the steep valley. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Over them shall be Fire closing round. 20
