The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 by the begetter, and that he begot, 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Does he think that no one can overpower him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what do you know what that difficult steep is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan, having relationship, 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 and, then besides this, he be one of those who believed, and enjoined upon one another steadfastness and enjoined upon one another compassion. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
