Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ I swear by yonder city 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 indeed, We created man in trouble. 4 Thinketh he, that none hath power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 One tongue, and two lips, 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 What could let you know what the height is! 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or the feeding on a day of hunger. 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And moreover to be of those who accepted faith, and who urged patience to one another and who urged graciousness to one another. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
