The Town (Al-Balad)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He says: "I have wasted a great deal of wealth." 6 Thinketh he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes?- 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 And have shown him the two ways? 10 Yet he has not assaulted the steep; 11 And what will make you know the path that is steep? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 Or feeding on a day of severe hunger 14 The orphan near in relationship, 15 or to a destitute lying in dust; 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 Those are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 And those who denied Our signs, are the people of the left. 19 and the Fire will close in on them. 20
