۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And by the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily, We have created man into [a life of] pain, toil and trial. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He says, "I have spent wealth in abundance." 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not appointed to him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 And pointed out to him the two conspicuous ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or some poor wretch in misery, 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 whereas those who are bent on denying the truth of Our messages - they are such as have lost themselves in evil, 19 Upon them is a fire, in which they are imprisoned, closed and shut above them. 20
