Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 And you are free (from sin, to punish the enemies of Islam on the Day of the conquest) in this city (Makkah). 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 Verily, We have created man in toil. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and guided him on the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what shall make thee understand that which the steep is? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 the giving of food upon the day of hunger 14 to an orphaned relative 15 Or to a Miskin (poor) afflicted with misery. 16 And to be of those who believe, and urge upon one another to persevere, and urge upon each other to be kind. 17 Those are the companions of the right. 18 But those who disbelieve Our revelations, their place will be on the left hand. 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
