The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ Nay, I swear by this city - 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 And by the begetter (i.e. Adam) and that which he begot (i.e. his progeny); 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Have We not made for him two eyes 8 And a tongue and two lips? 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he has not attempted the ascent. 11 And what could make thee conceive what it is, that steep uphill road? 12 [It is] the freeing of one's neck [from the burden of sin,] 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 Such are they that have attained to righteousness; 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 Upon them shall be a Fire that will hem them in. 20
Allah the Almighty always says the truth.
