Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 For you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) are in this city. 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and hardship. 4 Does he think that never will anyone overcome him? 5 He says, "I have spent enormous wealth." 6 Does he believe that none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 To free a neck (from the burden of debt or slavery), 13 or giving food on a day of hunger 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 then that he become of those who believe and counsel each other to be steadfast, and counsel each other to be merciful. 17 Their place will be on the right hand. 18 As for those who rejected Our Signs, they are the People of the Left Hand. 19 On them will be Fire vaulted over (all round). 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
