The Town (Al-Balad)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I do call to witness this City;- 1 And thou shalt be allowed in yonder city 2 And [by] the father and that which was born [of him], 3 Assuredly We have created man in trouble. 4 Does he, then, think that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And guide him to the parting of the mountain ways? 10 But he did not venture to scale the difficult steep. 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 or giving food upon a day of hunger 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 or of a needy [stranger] lying in the dust 16 Then will he be of those who believe, and enjoin patience, (constancy, and self-restraint), and enjoin deeds of kindness and compassion. 17 Such are the Companions of the Right Hand. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
