The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
And by the sun and its brightness; 1 And the moon when she followeth him, 2 By the day when it glorifieth it. 3 And the night when it draws a veil over it, 4 And the heaven and Him Who made it, 5 and by the earth and by Him Who stretched it out; 6 By the Soul, and the proportion and order given to it; 7 and inspired it with knowledge of evil and piety, 8 He is indeed successful who causeth it to grow, 9 And indeed failed is the one who covered it in sin. 10 The Thamud (people) rejected (their prophet) through their inordinate wrong-doing, 11 When the most unfortunate of them broke forth with 12 although God's apostle had told them, "It is a she-camel belonging to God, so let her drink [and do her no harm]!" 13 However, they rejected him and slew her. So their Lord completely destroyed them and their city for their sins. 14 And He fears not its consequence. 15
